When I was at the ASHA convention in Chicago, I had the privilege of meeting Rose Mary Long. She is a Speech-Language Pathologist and author who has written a touching story, The Fifth Season. What a special book this would be to have and to share.
On her website, she wrote: "I write to educate through stories. The Fifth Season is about one of the dedicated professionals who is part of the miracle I have experienced, the miracle of healing."
She added " I realized that those who are not involved as patients or professionals can't begin to comprehend the tragedy of being unable to communicate or swallow properly... almost no one outside my profession grasps the broad scope of practice of speech-language pathologists."
Speech-language pathologists work at the core of ‘quality of life'.
