Happy Holidays from TinyEYE

Building gingerbread houses with my brother and sister, behaving (because we knew Santa was watching), and knowing for sure we saw Rudolf’s hoof prints in our snow…these were all a part of my childhood Christmases. Christmas Eve was almost too much to bear as we would sneak in our PJ’s down the hall to see if we could hear him…Santa. We believed in the wonder…the magic of the season.

Today, as a grown-up, I still feel the tingle in my heart when I try to reduplicate the magical experiences for my children. I realize how precious it is to carry on old traditions and to start new ones. Songs that I learned as a child are now my children’s favourites. The other day, my daughter was belting out the song, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” when my young son bounced into the room begging at the top of his lungs, “MOM CAN WE GO TO TOWN? SANTA’S COMING!!!!” The song that I insist on singing to my kids every Christmas Eve is a quiet rendition of “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”. I nearly cry every time…the spirit of Christmas moves me.

Another heart-warming experience of the holidays is reaching out through a smile or some type of support to members of our community. My daughter was organizing a gift basket for a family in need when she made such a meaningful point. She said, “Mom, even though we are doing this for someone else, I am so excited.” The heart works that way…it fills right up when you open it to others.

I cannot help but notice the similarities between my purpose in TinyEYE and the holiday season. It is TinyEYE’s mission to bring quality speech therapy services to every child in need. We believe in the wonder of our online adventures…the power of our students to make magical things happen with their words and listening ears. When I am reaching out to a special child and find myself in a moment that has such a profound meaning and such a relevant purpose to the child, I nearly cry every time…the spirit of TinyEYE moves me. Then, when I meet with my amazing team and experience their unbreakable commitment to excellence for our students, my heart fills right up.

To all of you, may you feel embraced with joy and blessings. May you feel surrounded by others who cherish you. My you realize how important you are in the life of someone else. May you always believe in the wonder…the magic of the season.
