STUTTERING STRATEGIES FOR THE CLASSROOM

"My words may bump and bounce against your ear...so feel the message I need you to hear." ~Marnee

Hello Everyone,

As adults, we hold a paramount role in helping children develop a positive self-concept. We have the essential task of ensuring they learn and grow in an environment that mandates respect and celebration of everyone's participation. We have the imperative responsibility to help them stand on their pedestal and let their voice be heard. What happens when a child's sweet, gentle voice is blocked by stuttering? Well, you and I hold the special gift of filtering through the bumps and hearing their precious message. Most importantly, this child knows for sure that we, you and I, are the people in this world who are smart enough to understand him and joyful enough to absolutely love his ideas.

There are multiple approaches and beliefs in regards to supporting a child who stutters. Your Speech-Language Pathologist is accountable for identifying the best approach for each child. In the mean time, you can feel informed and empowered to support your child or student now. I have attached a document that outlines strategies for helping a child who stutters, as well as some information about the types of stuttering. You are welcome to share this resource...together we can make a difference in the self-concept...the voice...the life of a child.
